Strengthening PSM Capacity of Healthcare Professionals

Procurement & Supply Chain Management (PSM) is the backbone of any health program. Programs spend between 40 – 50% of the overall budget on PSM and thus in resource constrained settings of public health programs, it is of utmost importance to deploy the PSM funds with maximum impact and efficiency.

Capacity building in PSM is one of the thrust areas for better quality of health services and is an enabler for an organization to achieve its objectives in the context of logistics and supply chain dependencies. The most important step to achieve this is to have highly capacitated PSM staff.

Empower School of Health offers online Post-Graduate Diploma in Global Health Procurement and Supply Chain Management course, in technical collaboration with Kent State University. The course is designed to prepare health professionals for challenges that deal extensively with the Procurement and Supply Chain Management functions, and introduces them to various aspects of management and leadership in the global health context.

The course systematically explores the subject areas of Product Selection of Health Commodities, Quantification Methods, Procurement, Inventory Management, Storage and Distribution, Effective and Rational Use of Medicines and Quality Assurance of Pharmaceuticals, besides an overview of MIS, Organizational Management and Staffing, and the Financial Impact of PSM.
